Dr Benjamin Cass

Orthopaedic surgeon specialising in the treatment of and research into disease and disorders of the elbow and shoulder.

Co-founder with Dr Allan Young of Sydney Shoulder Research Institute, Dr Cass is an orthopaedic surgeon specialising in the treatment of and research into disease and disorders of the elbow and shoulder.

He is a senior member of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Royal North Shore Hospital and member of the Board of the Institute of Bone and Joint Research at the University of Sydney. Dr Cass is a regularly invited speaker at elbow and shoulder conferences both in Australia and overseas. He is also a member of two shoulder prosthetic design teams.

Dr Cass has several publications in international peer-reviewed journals. These papers have reported his research and clinical findings on resection arthroplasty for failed total elbow arthroplasty, long-term outcomes of elbow resection arthroplasty, treatment of simple and complex elbow dislocations, and the use of pedobarographic databases to analyse outcomes of rheumatoid forefoot reconstruction.

Dr Cass supervises the Sydney Shoulder Research Institute Clinical Fellowship which is AOA accredited and highly regarded both locally and overseas. As well as teaching while operating with Fellows, he also supports and supervises them in clinics Hospital and participates in the SSRI tutorial program. Dr Cass also is lead investigator for several research projects within the Institute and readily available to assist Fellows develop and pursue their own studies during their year with us.
