Dr. Shaan Patel was born and raised in Hamilton, Alabama following his parent’s immigration from India in 1983. He attended Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Pre-Medicine. He then attended medical school at the University of Alabama at Birmingham
Dr. Patel completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the Florida Orthopaedic Institute and University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. He was appointed the honor of being chief orthopaedic resident during his final year of training. Upon completion of his residency, Dr. Patel further specialized his training through a hand and upper extremity fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic and MetroHealth in Cleveland, Ohio; then internationally a shoulder and elbow fellowship at the Sydney Shoulder Research Institute (SSRI) in Sydney, Australia.
Following his fellowship at the SSRI, he was appointed Assistant Professor at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee with a hospital appointment at Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital in Lebanon, Tennessee.
