BIO

Dr Anand Ashok Kumar is an accomplished Indian orthopaedic surgeon with a subspecialty interest in Shoulder, Elbow, and Sports Surgery. His journey in medicine began in Davangere, where he completed his undergraduate training before securing a place at the prestigious Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore – one of India’s premier institutions with a century-long legacy of excellence. He was selected through a highly competitive entrance exam and went on to complete his Masters in Orthopaedics, gaining extensive exposure to complex trauma and reconstructive surgery.

Following his residency, Anand dedicated two years to CMC’s Chittoor branch, where he and his colleagues played a pivotal role in establishing the hospital’s Orthopaedic unit. His commitment to patient care and surgical excellence led him back to the main branch of CMC, where he joined as a Junior Consultant. Initially focusing on trauma, Anand soon developed a keen interest in Shoulder, Elbow, and Sports Surgery.

Fellowship Story

Eager to refine his expertise, Anand was selected for the prestigious Sydney Shoulder Research Institute (SSRI) fellowship, where he trained under renowned mentors, including Drs Benjamin Cass, Allan Young, Jeffery Hughes and Terence Moopanar.

During his year with SSRI, he gained invaluable experience managing complex shoulder and elbow conditions, arthroscopic procedures, and reconstructive surgeries. To further his specialization, he has gone on to fellowship in Brisbane, Queensland, under Dr Ken Cutbush, where he will continue to hone his skills in advanced shoulder surgery.

Upon completing these fellowships, Anand will return to CMC Vellore, where he aims to bring his international expertise to further develop and advance the Hospital’s Shoulder, Elbow, and Sports Surgery program.

Outside of his medical career, Anand is a passionate athlete. He actively participates in marathons and is also an avid cricket enthusiast, playing whenever time permits. Most importantly, he aims for a well-balanced life, spending cherished time with his wife and young daughter, enjoying sports and dedicating himself to building a successful medical career.
