The RNS Shoulder Symposium has firmly established itself as an unmissable event for shoulder surgeons across Australia and New Zealand, and this year was no exception. With a packed auditorium over two days, the symposium offered a powerhouse of expertise from leading ANZ surgeons and international figures. The schedule was brimming with comprehensive talks, covering every critical aspect of shoulder surgery.

This year’s international flavour came from the likes of Paul Sethi and Thomas Duquin, seasoned veterans from the US. After a long-haul flight, they found some time to hit the greens at Bonnie Doon before diving into the academic action. The faculty dinner, held at the Hilton hotel in Sydney, provided a warm setting for informal networking and welcoming newcomers ahead of the intellectual rigor that awaited.

Under the banner “Reaching Forward in ’24,” the symposium delved into cutting-edge topics like robotics, AI in shoulder surgery, and advanced planning software. Day 1 culminated in the highly anticipated battle rounds, where animated debates on surgical principles sparked plenty of excitement. Day 2 shifted focus to lesser discussed but equally vital topics for the practice of all shoulder surgeons.

The audience’s enthusiasm was palpable, with lively participation from surgeons eager to explore the future of shoulder surgery. Networking flourished, building deeper connections among attendees, and the symposium left everyone looking ahead with anticipation for the 2025 edition.
